Taking Part in Commencement
Diploma Distribution
The Commencement ceremony occurs prior to the last day to enter final grades for the semester. Once all grades are received from faculty, the Office of the Registrar will begin to confer degrees.
The diploma distribution/mailing process will begin approximately 4-5 weeks after final grades are due. Diplomas are sent to the mailing address indicated on the “Diploma Name & Mailing Address Request Form” completed when each student picked up regalia.
A tracking number from Josten’s will be sent to the email address on that same form; however, if one is not given, it will default to the Wolfmail email address.
In order to participate in Cheyney’s Commencement Convocation, you must meet the following criteria:
1. You have completed all degree requirements, and have submitted an anticipation of graduation form.
Curricular requirements must be reviewed with your academic advisor. If you have completed all required courses for a degree, you must submit the anticipation of graduation form, and collect all necessary signatures. After submitting the form, please attend to any email communications from University officials regarding the status of the application.
2. You need only to complete minimal credit hours to meet all degree requirements, and have submitted an Application to Participate (Walk) In Commencement form:
If you haven’t completed all degree requirements, and need to only two three-credit courses or two four-credit courses, or you need less than six credits to graduate, you still may have the opportunity to participate in commencement by completing the Application to Participate in Commencement form. This includes a completed Anticipation to Graduate form with your proposed graduation date. Students who are approved to participate will be identified as a participant in the Commencement Book.
In order to who participate, you must not have any stops on your account. You also will not be permitted to participate if you have an outstanding financial obligation to the University.
Once you’ve completed all outstanding coursework, you must notify your respective department and the Office of the Registrar for official degree conferral with the University.
What is the Difference between Participating in Commencement and Graduating?
Commencement and graduation are not the same thing. If you’re allowed take part in commencement ceremony because you’ve met either of the above exceptions, you have not graduated — you must complete the required credits in order to receive your degree. Please register for the required coursework as soon as possible. These can usually be completed in the upcoming summer or fall sessions. If you will need to complete additional coursework to graduate, please see the summer and fall session registration dates under Important Dates to Remember.
After completing the required coursework, you must then complete an Application to Participate in Graduation and have your academic advisor submit it to the office of the Dean for approval before it is forwarded to the Registrar’s Office by the deadline.
If you have any questions please contact your Academic Advisor or the Registrar’s Office at 610-399-2225.
