Dry Laboratory and Conference Space

  • Currently consisting of five converted rooms in Logan Hall.
  • Designated space for chemical and water analyses, specialized plant growth, small scale aquarium/aquaponic research area, and other laboratory functions.
  • Currently expanding to increase area devoted to the microbiology/biochemistry area.

Wet Laboratory Sites

  • Two 1600 ft2 wet laboratories have been renovated with one designated for research and the other for production.
  • It has been decided that dechlorination of available potable water will provide the primary water source.
  • Currently, all systems are recirculating or self-contained (aquaria).
  • Several areas have been set aside for indoor aquaponic research.

Research Wet Laboratory #1

  • Three systems each comprised of six 200-L rounded square tanks.  The tanks also have inserts which reduce the tank size to 100-L.  Systems can be used individually, all together, or as separate environmental treatments.
  • Multi-replicate upwelling system which can support thirty 6.5-L or twenty 20-L units.
  • An Aquatic Habitats (AHAB) system with seventy-two 2-L tanks and thirty-six 5-L tanks.

Production Wet Laboratory #2

  • Contains three systems each comprised of two 1200-L circular tanks for holding larger numbers of aquatic animals.
  • One system comprised of eight 80-L units.
  • Space for the set up of anywhere from 20-40 aquariums ranging in size from 40-L to 80-L each.
  • Space has been set aside for a 3.6 m x 9 m  indoor aquaponics bed.

Other Research Arrangements

  • Additional holding units for fish and other aquatic organisms can be set up depending on space requirements, design criteria, and funding.
