The Cheyney University’s Workforce Enhancement Network (CU WEN) in Cybersecurity program serves as a conduit to proactively take steps to reduce and ultimately eliminate disparity in representation in the cybersecurity field. The program will create both a talent pipeline, and an ecosystem in Pennsylvania that will ensure strong and community-relevant training, increase diversity in the cybersecurity workforce, facilitate learner and professional placement, and foster cybersecurity innovation.
- Preparation program to test for industry-recognized technology credential in one of CompTIA Core Certifications
- Beginning in Fall 2022 with a hybrid flexible delivery of online and in-person training and activities
- Participation in mentorship to support professional development and career advancement
12 modules delivered in cybersecurity (C), industry application (IA), and professional development (PD):
C1. Information Security Awareness: Cybersecurity attacks and threats and review of protection strategies. Feature discussion on equity in technology for communities of color. |
C2. Networks and Design: training on research data and intellectual property rights across various networks and designing systems to secure the information. |
C3. Governance, Ethics and Compliance: evaluating and proposing policies, procedures, and industry regulations within the field. |
C4. Cybersecurity Application: analysis of a user case study that was implemented and proposal of solutions to close discoverable gaps. |
IA1. Industry Impact: an overview of the business sector, introduction to strategic partners, their mission, goals, products and services and an analysis of societal impact. |
IA2. Business Focus Area: the process of moving technology beyond an idea into commercial ventures that allow the public to benefit from the discoveries. Featured work from innovators of color. |
IA3. From Innovation to Market: Knowledge of the Diffusion of Innovation theory to secure data and data users. Ethical considerations and funding reviewed. |
IA4. Business Strategy Presentation: cybersecurity pitch and group presentation to business. |
PD1. Introduction to Project Management: knowledge and application of the triple constraints (time, people, and money) of results-oriented outcomes. |
PD2. Business Communications: preparing written reports, professional communication, and oral communication (one-on-one and in teams). Feature discussion on appropriateness of cultural colloquialism. |
PD3. Polished on paper and in-person: describing education and professional experiences on paper, conducting job searches, perfecting interviews, and negotiating compensation packages. |
PD4. Workforce Job Shadowing: matched to an industry partner to observe the daily operations of the company and interactions with clientele. |
