Aspire to Educate

Cheyney University is currently offering a five-week summer enrichment program, designed to inspire students to consider a career in Education. This free program is designed to introduce students to the rewards and benefits of teaching.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education, in a joint effort with Cheyney University’s Education program, seeks to attract young minority men and women to Aspire to Educate (A2E). The A2E initiative aims to increase the number of students in teacher preparation programs, ultimately satisfying the Pennsylvania teacher shortage.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Be a Graduating Senior
  2. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  3. Have achieved an SAT score of 1000 or higher / ACT score of 20 (for graduating seniors)
  4. Be recommended by an Educator (Recommendation letter Required)
  5. Select Rising Seniors may apply; however, space is limited. No test scores required.

 

HOW TO APPLY:

  1. Complete the free online application www.cheyney.edu/apply 
  2. Register for summer 2020 
  3. Continuing Education 
  4. Select Aspire to Educate
  5. Upload a letter of recommendation

 

WHAT CAN STUDENTS EXPECT:

  1. Virtual Aspire to Educate (A2E) Program
  2. Introduced to the rewards and benefits of teaching as a culturally responsive educator
  3. Two free online college courses
  4. Peer mentors who will provide virtual support from a student’s perspective
  5. Virtual tutoring sessions
  6. Access to academic life coaches who will offer virtual support in keeping students on track throughout the program, as well as a
  7. Variety of exciting virtual StudentLingo workshops
