Cheyney University’s Annual Family Day to Feature Entrepreneurial Panel with Rap Snacks Founder James Lindsay and Rap Mogul Master P
What:
Cheyney University has partnered with the founder of Rap Snacks and Cheyney alumnus, James Lindsay, and Women In Media (WIM) for the 3rd Annual Family Day taking place on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 10 AM to 4 PM. The theme for this year is We Are Family, with an emphasis on community empowerment and entrepreneurship. The day includes a variety of family activities including a Kids Zone. The feature event is the “Bo$$ Up” entrepreneurship panel discussion featuring Mr. Lindsey, Rap Mogul Master P and local entrepreneurs.
The HBCU Bo$$ Up tour is the first of many stops at HBCUs around the country and opens the door for the establishment of an Innovation Café at Cheyney University.
Throughout the month of September, WIM has collected donations for the new community pantry available for students in need. During Family Day, WIM will make a special donation and presentation of collected items.

Additional Background:
Mr. Lindsay is from Philadelphia and graduated from Cheyney University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. He initially developed his marketing skills while serving as a manager in the consumer products industry for Johnson Products, an ethnic hair care company, and Warner-Lambert. These experiences, and his desire to own a business, empowered him to start Rap Snacks, Inc. in 1994. The initial success of Rap Snacks helped solidify a co-marketing agreement with Universal Records. The deal consisted of advertising Universal’s Artists on all Rap Snacks bags and the company grew into a multi-million dollar business.
With a desire to teach young people to become entrepreneurs, Rap Snacks BOSS-UP was formed for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes. BOSS-UP is the youth entrepreneurship arm of The Rap Snacks Foundation. Lindsey created the BO$$-UP teaches students important career skills in the context of building a business plan. Learn to establish, organize, and manage a small business. Entrepreneurship classes help students to understand basic business and economic principles, management theories, marketing concepts, and the role of law in business.
In 2001, Mr. Lindsay decided to expand his product line by purchasing a snack foods line called “Mr. G” snack foods. Mr. G was a locally owned Philly brand that was best known for its hot and barbecue cheddar flavored chips. In 2007, Mr. Lindsay launched Soulful Foods, Inc. The first product launched under Soulful Foods, Inc. was a venture between Mr. Lindsay and Sylvia Woods, the “Queen of Soul Food”. Mr. Lindsay has been in the consumer marketing industry over 17 years and he has been featured on “CBS Morning Show”, ABC’s “The Jimmy Kimmel Show”, BET, Fox News, People Magazine, The “Tavis Smiley” Show, Black Enterprise, Forbes, and Entrepreneur Magazine. He was also recognized by Business Philadelphia Magazine as “Top 100 People to Watch.”
Media coverage for this event is being done by Women In Media (WIM GLOBAL) under the leadership of Commissioner Danielle Jeter, a HBCU graduate from Spelman College. The mission of WIM is to Empower, Equip, and Encourage women to own their voices.
