Cheyney Honors Academy

Current Academy Member Requirements

Honors Academy Scholars are expected to meet the following requirements to remain in good standing:

  • Enroll in and complete a minimum of 15 credits each semester
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
  • Maintain a semester GPA of at least 3.0
  • Complete 30 credits of Honors coursework, including the Honors Capstone
  • Complete 10 hours of community service each semester
  • Attend all mandatory Honors Academy events and meetings
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Cheyney University Student Handbook and the Honors Academy Student Handbook

Please note, in order to maintain good standing in the Honors Academy and remain eligible for associated Honors scholarships, students must make adequate yearly progress to fulfill Honors Academy requirements. Dismissal from the Honors Academy will result in the loss of any honors awarded scholarships.

Admission Criteria for New Students

For First-Year, First-Time Students

  • Minimum high school GPA of 3.5
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Pennsylvania residency

For Transfer and Continuing Students

  • Minimum college GPA of 3.5
  • At least 24 transferable college credits
  • Have not earned less than a 3.0 semester GPA at any previous institution
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Pennsylvania residency

Holistic Review

Admission to the Honors Academy is competitive and holistic. In addition to GPA, the review process may consider:

  • Academic rigor and sustained performance
  • Leadership, initiative, and campus or community involvement
  • Service-oriented engagement and impact
  • Essay, interview, and letters of recommendation
