The Cheyney Record began as the University’s student newspaper in the early 20th century, with origins dating back to 1918, and widely recognized by 1920 as a cornerstone of student voice on campus.
Throughout its history, the publication documented pivotal moments at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, including visits from influential figures such as Langston Hughes, George Washington Carver, and W. E. B. Du Bois.
In a defining moment, a 1949 issue featured a student-led interview with Albert Einstein, exploring topics such as racism and atomic warfare, a powerful example of the publication’s long-standing commitment to meaningful dialogue.
