Cheyney University offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Theatre Arts.
The Theatre Arts area of the Humanities and Communications Arts Department at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is dedicated to providing a strong academic undergraduate program for its majors, stressing educational development and serious practical training in the state-of-arts facilities. Its mission is to prepare students for a challenging and rewarding future in commercial, community theatre, and graduate schools of theatre. Upon completion of this program, students will be qualified, depending on individual talents, to work as actor, director, teacher, technician, and manager in the professional, academic, and community theatre settings.
Students are required to take courses in history of theatre, acting, directing, as well as theatrical and dramatic criticism. The theatre arts program also offers a strong concentration in Black Drama studies while the Education concentration includes methods and student teaching opportunities.The Cheyney Players, a faculty-directed student drama organization, produces three major productions each season. Performances are held at The Dudley Theatre (Centre of the Performing Arts), a 300 seat proscenium theatre. The theatre houses state-of-the art computerized lighting and sound systems.Entrance auditions and interviews are conducted on campus during the months August and January.
